Right on time for the European Football Championship, the buses of the Berlin Public Transport Authority (Berliner Verkehrsbetriebe) have been given a special look. In addition to the black, red and gold flags sported on the private cars of German football fans, the articulated buses of Berlin will appear with German flags as they go on their routes through the city, giving special encouragement to the German national team.
The idea came about through the collaboration of the folding bellows manufacturer HÜBNER GmbH from Kassel, the Berlin Public Transport Authority and the internally renowned specialists for outdoor advertising and street furniture from Berlin, the Wall AG.
The flexible element in the middle of the articulated bus – the so-called folding bellows – displays a large German flag together with the adjacent body of the bus. When the bus goes around a corner, the flag waves for Germany.
The new design of the Berlin buses shows how the appearance of articulated buses can be enhanced and made more attractive. Normally the gray folding bellows separates the two portions of the bus. Now this dull functional gray has taken on a new more colorful aspect, which can benefit the image of public transportation and the city image as a whole.
The European Football Championship is a welcome occasion to present modern product designs for articulated buses and at the same time to show support for the German national team. The flag development team sends its best wishes to the German players for a successful showing in the coming matches!
